Merrijig galloped home in glorious isolation to bring the curtain down on Ripon's season with a ten-length win in the closing two-mile handicap on Saturday.
He has been putting together a very successful season, with three wins in eight starts since making a winning seasonal debut in March. He isn't always the easiest ride but is learning to settle well now and he does travel particularly well for Gina Mangan, who has now won on him in his last two starts.
It was a fantastic day for the four members of the Beverley House Stables Partnership who made it to Ripon, and for the others shouting Merrijig on from home. Having taken the lead three furlongs from home, he had the race in the bag from two out.
He has now won four times on the Flat and appears to be continuing to progress nicely so we hope there is more to come from this lovely character. His dam Near Wild Heaven was also in training here, and it has been an absolute pleasure for us to have been involved with Merrijig since the day he was born. The accompanying photograph shows him at twelve hours old.
