Roy Rocket honoured at ROA Awards

Larry and Iris McCarthy with Phil Bell, Rod Street and Emma at the ROA Awards

It was a great surprise and pleasure to hear that Roy Rocket had been nominated for the ROA Special Achievement Award for 2018 and an even bigger suprise when he was named as the winner at the ROA Awards in London on 6 December.

We've been extremely touched by the following Roy has developed over the last few seasons and it was lovely for the McCarthys and the Berrys not just to received this special award but also so many messages of support afterwards. Roy has now notched nine wins at Brighton and he has recently come back into training after a two-month break in the hope that he'll be back in his beloved Sussex next spring to start adding to this tally.

We'd like to thank the ROA for nominating Roy in the first place and for the many members who voted for him in a category which included the 1,000 Guineas winner Billesdon Brook, Queen Anne Stakes winner Accidental Agent and the evergreen multiple Group-winning sprinter Take Cover among others. It was a joy to be included in such esteemed company and Larry, Iris and Emma were very honoured to be able to accept the award on Roy's behalf.
