Merrijig Makes All at Redcar

Merrijig has long been the apple of lots of eyes as he has a big and happy syndicate behind him, and it was fantastic to see him get off the mark at Redcar on Tuesday under a brilliant front-running ride by

Ben Curtis. Even better, this also happened to be Ben's 1,000th winner in Britain and we send him our congratulations and thanks for all his endeavours.

Although he's five, which is a decent age for a Flat horse, Merrijig started out under National Hunt rules and is still quite a baby. Narrowly beaten when second in his bumper debut last year, he has now finished in the first three on five of his ten starts, including when being beaten a neck in second on his previous start at Carlisle.

We are thrilled to have a winner for the Beverley House Stables Partnership, a group of like-minded and friendly owners, and we hope that there is more to come from Merrijig, who becomes more professional with every run.

He was the second winner of the week for this stable after the victory of Little Peter at Worcester on Monday, and we look forward to the run of Beryl Burton at Beverley on Wednesday, and Dereham, Tarbat Ness and Hiccups at Pontefract on Thursday.
