Anyone who has followed the career of Kryptos will know that it has been a long road back to the races for him following a tendon injury. In fact, from his exciting three-year-old season, when he won three races and was placed in his two other starts to end the year with a rating of 100, it was exactly 995 days before he returned to a racecourse in June this year.
Happily, he appears to have made a very good recovery and Kryptos has raced nine times this year, finally making it back into the winner’s enclosure at Wolverhampton on Monday. Prior to that he’s been placed three times, as well as in his two previous starts in ground softer than ideal for him, and he actually ran a pretty good race in the Cambridgeshire when drawn on the ‘wrong’ side.
Monday marked his first start on an all-weather surface but he handled it very well and was given a very polished ride by Megan Nicholls, for whom it was an extra special race as she rode out her claim. Congratulations to Megan, and extra congratulations to Tony Fordham, who has been so patient all through Kryptos’s prolonged lay-off and certainly deserved to see this lovely horse winning again.
