Sussex Girl leads Roy Rocket in a gallop this week

The Flat season is now properly underway for this stable with a number of horses ready to run, headed by Roy Rocket, who is seeking his tenth win at Brighton today. Following his good season in 2018, which included three victories at his favourite track, he may find things slightly tougher today in a higher grade of race. He is in good form at home through and we know that he will try his best, as ever, under John Egan.

We hope that John will also be aboard Sacred Sprite at Wolverhampton on Tuesday for her handicap debut. She's found the opposition too good for her in novice races, which is hardly surprising as she's had some very good opponents, but she's now eligible to compete in her proper grade. Now that she's out of novice company she will also have a chance to race beyond a mile and a half. She's from a George Strawbridge family of good stayers and she has the classic long-distance runner's physique in that she is lean and wiry.

Also on Tuesday, Sussex Girl will head back to Yarmouth, where she has won before. She's starting off at a mile, despite the fact that both her victories have come over ten furlongs, as she can be a bit keen when fresh and this is her first start of the year. Oisin Murphy, who partnered her sister Ethics Girl to victory at Epsom a number of years ago, is booked to ride.
